Governor's Message

March 29, 2015

Greetings to our ECR Soroptimists and Visitors to our site,

This is the time of year we prepare to gather together at our annual Eastern Canada Region Spring Conference in May. This year it is being held at the DELTA HOTEL AND CONFERENCE CENTRE in GUELPH, ONTARIO. Members of Soroptimist International of the "Royal City" of Guelph are looking forward to having you share a weekend together in the "PALACE"!

The Eastern Canada Region Board has planned an exciting agenda that should be of interest to all members. I am excited to let you know that Girl Guides of Canada, Ontario Council, Provincial Commissioner Marcia Powers-Dunlop will be a guest speaker at our Spring Conference!! She will be talking about what she has found to be the needs of girls in her experiences through the Girl Guides of Canada organization and the things that they have done to address this.

On Sunday, we hope to host one of the Soroptimist Foundation of Canada (SFC) Grant winners. This will be a great opportunity to hear how your donations to SFC help young women continue their education.  We also are planning for you to have an opportunity to meet the Region winner for the Live Your Dream Award. By focusing our efforts on programs such as the Live Your Dream Award we help women gain access to education and we help contribute to these women’s future success.

We are privileged to have as our official Federation Visitor Wanda Price who is a member of SI  Five Points Magenta, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA. Wanda is currently serving a two year term on the Board of Directors. Please make Wanda feel welcome and ensure her trip to Eastern Canada Region is memorable.

We look forward to your attendance at conference once again this year. Please encourage other members, especially the new members in your club to come to conference this year. As an incentive, Eastern Canada Region will refund $65.00 of the cost of the registration fee to any first time attendee at the conference.

On behalf of the Eastern Canada Region Board and members of Soroptimist International of Guelph, please join us in this great opportunity to be together as Soroptimists, to share our interests in improving the lives of women and girls, to have fun and to enjoy a weekend in the Royal City!

To those site visitors reading this, we would love to hear from you if you are interested in learning more about the Soroptimist International, or if you would like to attend a meeting.
A list of Club Presidents is on this site or feel free to contact me at and I will assist you.

In Soroptimist Friendship,

Supporting Women and Girls to be their Best

July 1, 2014

My name is Donna and I am a Soroptimist! I am honoured to be Governor of the Eastern Canada Region for the 2014-2016 biennium.

My interest in serving with Soroptimist International comes from my desire to be part of an organization that has a positive impact on women, not just locally, but around the world. I am deeply committed to supporting the success of Soroptimist International in such a way as to ensure that its legacy continues. I consider it a privilege to lead the dedicated, compassionate and wonderful women of the Eastern Canada Region. I hope that you will visit our webpage often over the next two years to follow my experience and offer your comments.

If you are new to the word “Soroptimist”, I would like to take this opportunity to introduce you. I have taken the information from the Soroptimist website and posted it below.  I can't explain it any better!!

Soroptimist is a global women’s organization whose members volunteer to improve the lives of women and girls through programs leading to social and economic empowerment. More than 80,000 Soroptimists in about 130 countries and territories support community–based and global projects benefiting women and girls. The organization is particularly concerned with providing women and girls access to education, as this is the most effective path to self-determination.

The name, Soroptimist, means "best for women," and that's what the organization strives to achieve. Soroptimists are women at their best, working to help other women to be their best.

Soroptimist members belong to local clubs. In addition to providing women and girls with access to education, members volunteer on projects such as providing mammograms to low-income women, sponsoring self-esteem workshops for teenage girls, and mentoring women in domestic violence shelters. In addition, Soroptimists participate in organization-wide programs including the Soroptimist Live Your Dream Awards, the Soroptimist Workplace Campaign to End Domestic Violence, the Soroptimist Violet Richardson Award and Soroptimists STOP Trafficking.

Soroptimist also sponsors, an online community empowering offline volunteer action. The self-motivated network is made up of people who wish to support women and girls in their quest to lead better lives, while gaining inspiration in their own lives. Members of the free online community work on topics such as women’s economic empowerment, ending violence against women, human trafficking, and more. They also have access to inspirational articles, tips, and blogs that can help them live their own personal dreams.
