Annual Christmas Gift wrapping at Stone Road Mall
Every year it is a pleasure to run gift-wrapping tables at Stone Road Mall. With various results we always are able to have good success with local support of the Mall and its patrons. In 2005 we set up our table with paper, tape and lots & lots of ribbon and had one of the most successful fundraisers. Guelph Soroptimists as well as some volunteers from Michael House were able to man the booth the week before Christmas. All volunteers who help are invited to a “Thank you” evening to say Thank you for your time in supporting this cause.
Dragon Boat Races
In June 2003 & 2004 we help run the Children's Corner at the Dragon Boat Festival. With a Dragon Bouncer and games, buried treasure as the main attractions fun, fun, fun was to be had by all. We raised over $1,200.00 for our local projects and awards.
Soroptimists manned the Dragon Bouncer and everyone enjoyed being eaten alive and then bouncing up a storm inside
Regal Greetings and Gifts
For many years the members of SI Guelph have used Regal Greetings & Gifts as a fundraiser to help with the Clubs needs. This has aided in sending members to conference & conventions so the members can see the larger scope of what Soroptimist International of the Americas does and continues to do focusing on our mission.
Regal Greetings and Gifts has reinvented itself and we hope this will assist us in our fundraising.

Loonie Toonie Auction
Our second annual Loonie Toonie Auction was held on November 4th, 2005 in the
Simcoe Recreation Center.
We had an excellent selection of auction items and many door-prices thanks
to some very generous people for those donations.
The turn out was good with guests enjoying a nice evening with good
homemade sweet snacks and refreshments. The ladies from the Red Hat Society
had lots of fun and many left with great auction items.

Annual Library Book Sale
This event is held during the last week of September at the Hamilton Public Library. There are thousands of books for sale that have been discarded from area libraries and are on sale for a dollar or two. This Book Sale is our major fundraiser so that we can continue to allocate money to our service groups.

Talent Challenge
Members use their talent to raise money. We are a very resourceful group and wait eagerly to learn of the creative ways our members have of making this a successful event. Some of the unique ways our members have used their talents to raise funds are:
Jam, wreath, knitted slippers and sweaters, senior’s discount receipts, air miles points, greeting cards (Stampin’ Up).
Card Parties
A euchre party is held each year in the party room of one member’s condominium.
Guests pay a small fee for a night of euchre and fun. Snacks and drinks are provided. Prizes are plentiful and everyone takes one home. The high scorers have first choice of the prizes.
50/50 Draw
Funding for various Soroptimist programs is generated at our monthly meetings. The winner keeps one half of the “pot” and the other half helps fund such worthy projects as assisting victims of domestic violence, single-parent families, seniors and bus tickets for teenaged mothers continuing their education.
Greeting Cards
Creating greeting cards is our newest means of fundraising. Materials are generously donated by our member who has shared her talent in the field of “Stampin’ Up!”, a system of creating beautiful greeting cards to sell at such events as Soroptimist Spring Conference and Soroptimist Fall Region meeting, or to anyone who wishes to purchase them. Each card is unique! Order yours via email: dhuhtalo@cogeco.ca
Spring Raffle
At Soroptimist Eastern Canada Spring Conference our club provides a collection of items to sell or a gift basket to be raffled. The money raised funds local projects assisting women and girls. As well, some of this money is donated to Soroptimist International’s global projects.

Soroptimist's Golf for Health Tournament
SI Peterborough has been supporting the PRHC Foundation for several years and has donated over $40,000 to community health initiatives for women. Construction at the new hospital is now underway, and we were pleased to continue to support this project with revenues from our Annual "Golf for Health" tournament, held in June.
This tournament's success is due in large part to the support of our local business community who purchase sponsorships and donate prizes and of course to the large number of golfers who return year after year to support us. On Sept. 5th, 2007 we were able to present the Hospital foundation with a cheque for $5000. Thanks to all the volunteers, sponsors, and participants!
Wed., Dec. 6, 2006
At our regular business dinner and meeting, a collection was taken up to raise funds for Project Punjab, this year’s President’s Appeal. Soroptimist International is partnering with Oxfam to train 40 teachers, rehabilitate classrooms, and increase attendance of girls in schools. In total, we collected $219.68 from members to support this project.
UNICEF Collection
Each year, SI Peterborough coordinates many aspects of the local Hallowe'en UNICEF program through the schools in the local public school board, and with the "counter box" program through local businesses in the month of October. This year, UNICEF embarked on a new strategy, eliminating the collection box program in favour of the new “Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF” program. Children are encouraged with this new program to raise money amongst neighbours, family, and friends to purchase symbolic bricks. Participating schools keep track of money raised with posters of a school on which paper bricks with students’ names are placed. Participating students receive a bright Halloween candy bag in recognition of their efforts.
This program has been coordinated by our club for many years and is one of our most successful and worthwhile projects. In 2005, the UNICEF campaign involved 57 schools and collected over $23,000. Last year, we raised more than $25,000 under the new program with only 21 school participating. We hope this year will be the best yet.
Festival of Trees
The Peterborough Club also supports the efforts of the Festival of Trees organizing committee by decorating a special Christmas to be auctioned at this annual event. Our tree will again be decorated under the creative direction of Gisela Schubert with a 2007 theme of Teddy Bears. Hundreds of visitors attend this event in November each year, to listen to live entertainment, participate in Christmas activities and wonder at the beautiful trees and decorations. The dates for this year's event are: November 20, 21, 22, 23, 24 & 25, 2007! For more information, go to: www.pfot.org
Christmas Tea and Bazaar
A Christmas Bazaar and Tea will be held at the Lion’s Centre on Burnham Street in Peterborough in Saturday, November 24th from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Poinsettias, baked goods, crafts, and jewellery will be available. Over $3,300 was raised through this event last year!
Annual Grocery Draw
This spring we will once again have a grocery draw to raise money for Cameron House, a local shelter for women and their children. Throughout April check us out at various venues, including the Kawartha Home and Cottage Country Show, The Peterborough Garden Show, the Kawartha Outdoor Adventure Show, and at the Peterborough Farmer’s Market on Saturdays. The draw will be held Friday, May 11, 2007, with proceeds going to Brock Mission for Women (Cameron House).

Sale of Poinsettias
We have an arrangement with a local greenhouse to supply us with Poinsettias. Members begin taking orders for them in September\October. We rent a Hall for one day in early December and have all the plants delivered there by the greenhouse. As many members as possible volunteer to work that day. Buyers then come to pick up their plants from 10 am to 5 pm Members also deliver plants to their own buyers, but we also deliver plants, especially to businesses who have placed large orders. This is an especially good selling point and members who have vans or other large vehicles help out in this way.
